<<< Tough to compete with Union labor in steel production. I expect us to be out of the automobile manufacturing business in 30 years. China will flood the market.>>>

We will never be able to compete with China in the cheap labor department.

But that is no big deal. Concede automobile manufacturing to China. So what. The combustion engine is at the end of the line, historically speaking anyway.

We (all of civilization) have used up 33.3% of all the oil that is on earth. The next 66.7% of oil (2000 billion barrels) will be used up much faster. In historic terms, that is the blink of an eye (50-100 years).

We in the United States have a higher standard of living because we deserve a higher standard. We can not maintain a higher standard living by force.

For one, it would not be right and for another it would not be fair.

We can maintain a higher standard of living by working smarter.

We have a lot of natural advantages that we have to exploit.

1. Our geography. We are a continental power with good amount of natural resources. We are both an Atlantic and a Pacific power. We are really the Middle Kingdom.

2. Language. English is the the de facto universal language. It is the lanugage of science, commerce, and transportation (all air traffic control is conducted in english - I believe).

The Chinese are really handicapped by their language. Their language is a kludge. It is an ancient language. They are stuck with it. It is not amenable to modern society. They have to do a lot just to keep up. Almost everyone in China, if they are to participate in the world community will have to also get up to speed in English.

3. Our educational system. Conservatives are at war with our educational system, but it is by far the best in the world. Almost all Nobel Science Laureates either studied, teaches, or did their research in a University in the United States.

For China and the ROW to compete they would have to develop Universities that can compete with Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Univeristy of California (various branches), University of Michigan, Duke, NYU, University of Illinois, Princeton, Brown, and etc.).

I don't know if they can ever do that.

Let the free market prevail. It is to our advantage. Plus, that has always been the Conservative view.

I know,, I know. Nobody else plays fair. We have to pre-empt everyone else. BS.

We need to be the leaders of the world. We can not be isolationists in the modern world. We can not go it alone.

We need to build alliances. We need to lead by example. We have to be the leaders in the world community. That is why we deserve to have a higher standard of living. We are the leader and we work smarter.

We don't go around pre-emptively killing people.

Sure it is a new world. But the more things change, the more they stay the same. Nothing is totally different. Especially morality.

What made Western Civilization great (which began) 2000 years ago remains unchanged. It is very simple. But, I agree it is not easily understood.
