It is finite. Start with that. We are using it a lot faster than it is being reproduced. I don't think you need that much mathematics to determine that utilization can not go on at current rate (not even considering rate of increase) for all that long.

Some things can be forecasted pretty easily. Like death and taxes. But to extrapolate that we will eventually convert solar energy is not that terrific a prediction. Until then oil shale, wind, hydro electric, fuel cell , conservation can easily bridge the gap. We don't need to go to war for energy. We have the science.

It is just for now, oil is extraordinarily cheap. Much, much cheaper than water or even coffee. They sell water for $50.00 a gallon in Manhattan restaurants. They sell coffee at Starbucks at $15.00 a gallon.

Cheap gas will not last forever. But, so what?
