LBJ would be a Republican these days. Similar to Phil Gramm or John Connelly who both switched parties. Bush Sr. used to be a pro-choice liberal. Now all the old Dixiecrats are right-wing Republicans. LBJ may or may not have been guilty but he was certainly mixed in with the same Texas oil crowd GW is now.
