Dirk; Good voice recognition is nearby with the latest IBM and Dragon products. They will change it quite a lot in the next year or two. This stuff need to get on to the Apple. So far it is stronger on the Wintels due to market size. What is needed is a mouse control by voice, <GGG> Another things is content addressable databases, huge computational needs, but could bring AI a lot closer, and make pseudo intuitive actions part of computers.
Smart bombs??, forget it, they made one and it was too smart, refused to explode, too young to suicide I guess.
It is hard to think of new, faster cheaper is a matter of course. And in time who needs people, we will all live in zoos and mobile computers will come to look at the primitive organic computers, if they let us live. The first law of robotic killing machines is kill everything that moves, the second is kill the rest.
When they get the power to have voice recognition into a tiny package, we can get a computer and microphone that will speak and listen to us as we move about. Visual glasses will allow 3D VR as walk/drive and the ultimate hustler will be a person with 6 images in his VR, talking to one, faxing another, and driving in downtown LA(without hitting anything, due to robotic driver assist)
Such a system with full wide band radio linkeage would allow unprecedented freedoms of access and travel. Full bidirectional access to a wideband real time video capable radio/satellite linked internet/successor.
