Ouch is right, but I didn't cover yet. While we're on the topic of covering shorts - for taxes - if you have to cover within 30 days of shorting a stock for a loss can you write it off for taxes if you do not short the same stock for 30 days (wash sale)? Or do you have to hold the shrt for 30 days?
