Thanks Curtis. I recall that article, and others like it during the period, well. And of course I refer to the newer capabilities as WDWM, whether I think it's silly or not. I guess my point about the semantics of it all has been lost to more popular forces. It certainly wouldn't be the first time. <smile>
BTW, the article you cited was published during the draft and publication dates of SONET tutorial - during the most vulnerable period of a document draft's life - which I wrote for Network Magazine (then, LAN Mag).
The tutes made reference to higher orders of WDM at the time, citing the work that had previously been done at TJ Watson Jr. Labs during the Project Rainbow days, and memory fails me now, but I'm fairly certain that I did NOT make use of the newer term then, since it was only then being coined. Could this be the reason for my obstinacy here, and my aversion to its use? [grin]
