This is my point. MSFT has bought SoftImage. SoftImage is a high-end graphics package used to create the animals in the movie Jumanji, they are "the official tool of Sega Developers", etc.

In other words, MSFT is pointing out that this is the way a modern day OS has to go. You create/buy your own "digital movie studio" business. You then sell and migrate its products into your operating system as the hardware allows us to. Whether we like it or not, this is the direction of OS interface development. Look at IE4. It's more like a movie theater or TV - complete with curtain like effects and channels. Also, if you are a high-end graphics designer and you bought SoftImage, guess what OS it works best with? I think if Apple doesn't buy Pixar it will have to develop a clone at even greater expense. Do you agree?
