>>> So he should have reduced the level of troops?

I have said that I will support the president's decision on troop levels and I intend to do so; the addition of an arbitrary withdrawal date was, however, an incompetent move that could end up costing American lives -- and one made solely for political purposes.

RW was talking about how 1,000s of troops would still be alive had the P.D. been followed before, and I was simply making the point that we can't know that at all. In general, sending more troops means we are going to see more violence for some period, not less.

>>> After 7 years of starving the place and leaving another mess for his successor?

I don't agree this is what happened. Obama was handed essentially the same plan he announced last night (sans the incompetent withdrawal plan) by the Bush administration. Bush would have taken the same steps a year ago.

It is a fact Iraq had to be won first, and it totally made sense for it to be approached in this way, short liberal memories notwithstanding.
