Thanks Eric for the info. I forgot about the 5 % issue. I don't see any justification for such intervention into CMGI. They aren't much different from a public holding company. Part of point of mutual fund regs is to protect investors from a fund being overconcentrated with a small selection of companies. But I'm not aware of any regs that are intended to prevent a venture capital company from; 1) being public; 2) selecting the investment it chooses on behalf of its investors. The existence of a company like CMGI makes venture-type activity more accessible to the average person and should therefore be encouraged. Can anybody enlighten us on securities law on this?
