I'll have to look at the laws (???). It's an interesting possibility. As I already said, a bit, in a post to Tim, I think the intent of the laws are something that most people would support. But if not badly written, they are badly named and presented.

I have talked to a man who watched a killing of a black man to keep other blacks in line. I have talked with people who lived with the fear that such killings generated, intentionally. The early sixties is NOT ancient history. It is alive. Granted, we have changed a lot. But I think the intent of hate crimes legislation is to insure that no group of Americans is terrorized by another group of Americans. A noble intent that I think we mostly can agree on. Maybe the problem is in presentation? And in not acknowledging that terror can go the other way?
