Yes, SCSI is a better technology but it is much more expensive and this also help killing Apple. Now you see Apple steal the nice simple EIDE interface from PC. To me, support of external device is the only significant advantage of SCSI over EIDE for a *normal* user nowaday. SCSI offer much better expandibility and better performance but at a high price.

Hard to say. There are even less reason to buy SCSI than before. Few years ago, SCSI was almost a requirement for many CD-ROM, scanner, CDR, tape drive, and all high-performance HDD are SCSI only. Now we see many new EIDE drives (7200rpm/190Mb+ is coming too!) which match or beat the low-mid range SCSI. The top-end (10000rpm) is still SCSI only. The lack of built-in support in the PCI chipset slow the wide acceptance of SCSI.
