OT on Bay Networks

Bay Networks was a publicly traded company until late 1998 -- if I remember correctly, it was BAY on the NYSE. They were a perpetual also-ran, specializing in ATM (not such a great bet to make), and were themselves formed from a semi-successful merger.

Northern Telecom bought Bay in order to credibly transform themselves into Nortel Networks. I sold my Nortel stock when they announced the Bay purchase; I thought they were trying to do the right thing, but were going about it the wrong way (by buying a third-rate company).
