Fred, All,
Most all of the brand loyality to Intel is at the boxmaker level not the consumer level.
So if AMD and Cyrix are to compete with Intel...it has to be by getting Tier one boxmakers
or by Tier 2 and Tier 3`s moving up to Tier 1 buy selling AMD and Cyrix.
My research shows that if the speed`s the same the consumer will go for price.
This doesn`t bode well for Intel...but it remains to be seen how the boxmakers react.
The speed playing field is more level than it`s been for a long while. Intel`s stayed ahead of the pack because the control the code and continuously have been able to up the ante.
Looks like the buck MIGHT BE stopping next year.
What do you think will happen as the main operating system heads toward Windows NT?
Don`t Power Pc`s run that well? DEC Alphas?
Could be some dark clouds down the road for Intel`s earnings...although I wouldn`t bet against them...

Jim
