There is a small amount of fission with the neutron device, about 1/100th that of an atom or hydrogen device. So some slower decaying radiation is released. Neutrons penetrate well and cover a larger area than a comparable atomic or hydrogen weapon. The current status of the weapon is a mystery. Assume there are 350 lance missle neutron warheads and 350 neutron artillery shells in the U.S. arsenal. The French also have some of their own development and manufacture. The weapon was developed to minimize damage on friendly territory in Europe in the event that such weapons were necessary to stop a Russian attack.
