I suspect Arkansas has always been about as conservative as it is today. Which doesn't mean it isn't dominated by Democrats. Lots of places are like that. Houston's not a liberal city like SF or Seattle but its dominated by business oriented Democrats. It may be about to be the first big city with a lesbian mayor (a Democrat with a record as a fiscal conservative). Her opponent is a black establishment Democratic lawyer. Good point......it suggest that political titles don't necessarily explain the reality on the ground.
