I do think that we humans, as a species, are still evolving towards a higher consciousness. I do. I suspect that you doubt it?
There was an amazing story in the Washington Post yesterday, about Burundi. Someone is making a documentary about the genocide there, and the people who were involved were filmed talking about their participation in it. It's called "Breaking the Code." The film-makers wanted to understand the source and mechanics of the conflict, and the killers co-operated openly. They say they have admitted the murders openly because they want to break the cycle of genocide, they want it to stop.
I'll try to find the link on edit. But it's astonishing, to me, because so often we read that people in wars don't want to kill, they feel like they are fighting for politicians and rich people who have agendas that have nothing to do with them. Even the people who actually did the murders in the Holocaust were sickened by what they did. I can imagine a time when people are too educated, and have too many options, to become cannon fodder, or to be co-opted into murder masqueraded as patriotism. I do believe it is possible.
I am sure that I will hear from those who believe that war is inevitable, that it is in man's nature to wage war. I just don't believe that's true. I think people wage war because they are either desperate, or manipulated by those with something to gain.
But then, I am descended from people who left Europe to avoid fighting in wars.
