SCM Microsystems Enables World's First User Customizable Entertainment Systems Microsoft Powered Systems Showcase SCM's Key Enabling Technologies For Advanced Entertainment Boxes LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- SCM Microsystems (Nasdaq: SCMM; Neuer Markt: SMY) and Microsoft® (Nasdaq: MSFT - news) will demonstrate multiple advanced home entertainment systems based on one another's advanced digital TV technologies at the Western Cable Show, November 29, December 1, 2000, SCM Booth #3611 and Microsoft Booth #3617, Convention Center, Los Angeles, CA.
The demonstration will include multiple home entertainment systems providing a variety of rich entertainment features such as Video Streaming, 3D Games, Digital Photo Album, Internet browsing, and DVD, combined with access to premium digital television content, enabled by SCM's St@rBay receiver. Both a US OpenCable(TM) St@rBay and a DVB satellite St@rBay will be shown. All entertainment systems will be running a future version of Microsoft's Windows® 2000.
``SCM's St@rBay receivers enable a new generation of entertainment devices by providing tuning and conditional access capabilities in a user-customizable device that plugs into the host system,'' said Paolo Siccardo, Executive Vice President Digital TV and Broadband Access at SCM Microsystems. ``Users can customize their systems to access premium TV content from multiple sources to gain benefits such as picture-in-picture and view-and-record PVR functions.''
When based on the future version of Windows 2000, the host system can easily and cost effectively include features such as DVD, Windows Media streaming video, Audio jukeboxing, 3D games and Internet browsing, into a single device with a single remote control. In addition, St@rBay's ``stackable'' architecture allows multiple variants and combinations of receivers to suit the needs of different consumers.
``Providing consumers with a wide range of premium TV content is a vital part of the living room entertainment experience that we are working to enable, and SCM are leaders in providing this receiver module capability for the platform,'' said Dave Marsh, the technical evangelist for TV & Video at Microsoft Corp. ``We are very pleased with the way the SCM receiver modules are performing in the Microsoft TV Technologies architecture.''
