EMC and Bull to Deliver Fibre Connectivity For AIX
HOPKINTON, Mass. and PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1999--EMC Corporation and Groupe Bull today announced availability of the first solutions that enable Fibre Channel connectivity between servers running the AIX operating system and EMC Symmetrix Enterprise Storage systems.
Fibre Channel connectivity for AIX-based servers, like Bull's Escala and IBM's RS/6000 platforms, enables customers to connect more servers to EMC Enterprise Storage systems across longer distances than is possible with current SCSI connections. Customers are able consolidate greater amounts of information for better management, protection and sharing, and to integrate applications distributed on local or remote servers through an EMC Enterprise Storage Network (ESN). Through Fibre Channel hubs, up to 64 AIX-based servers are able to connect to a single Symmetrix Enterprise Storage system, offering the highest levels of management, protection and availability for mission- and business-critical information.
As part of a reseller agreement between the two companies, Bull has offered EMC's Symmetrix systems as the enterprise storage solution for its Escala server family for the past three years. EMC has offered SCSI connectivity between servers running the AIX operating system and Symmetrix storage systems since 1995.

Bull and EMC have been OEM and reseller partners for six years, with Bull initially offering Symmetrix with its DPS 7000 and DPS 9000 mainframe platforms. As the successful relationship evolved, Bull began reselling Symmetrix as the primary storage solution for all of its enterprise computing platforms, including its Escala systems.
Availability
The AIX connectivity interface for EMC Enterprise Storage systems is available immediately and will be offered by both Bull and EMC.
