That's the hard part for anyone to grasp.
Without the alien's death sporting influence over us you could probably count human conflict leading to murder on one hand.
Throughout all of our history.

We were never a violent species if left alone.

They've been here a long time.
Think lab rat.
Now look in the mirror.

If they exterminated us they'd no longer have the pleasure of torturing us with wars, disease, etc.
