What I was leaning against in the photo on my profile is one of a stone circle called the Merry Maidens I hiked up to a few years ago when I visited West Penwith, the tip of Cornwall which also contains Land's End. (While the photo was being taken I could see past the the photographer to one of the many abandoned tin mines that dot this part of Cornwall.)

The story goes that these particular maidens, now lithic but then comely, snuck out one night and partied so hard that after some shenanigans they ended up being turned to stone, albeit unfortunately not of the aureous variety.
