You damage the future by not taking steps to protect the country, by not investing in productive assets, and by taking an anti- growth posture (i.e., high taxes, high regulation). We do need to work to reign in deficits, rather than letting them explode, so that they remain manageable, but all of the handwringing over the Reagan deficits proved to be fatuous, precisely because they began to recede quickly, and within a reasonable framework, disappeared.......
