Sun Micro ekes net profit as revenue declines

LOS ANGELES, April 16 (Reuters) - Computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc. (NasdaqNM:SUNW - News) on Wednesday reported a slim quarterly profit, reversing a year ago loss, as revenue declined for the eighth consecutive quarter.

Santa Clara, California-based Sun, which makes computers that manage networks, reported a net profit of $4 million, or nil cents per share, in its fiscal third quarter ended in March, compared with a year-ago net loss of $37 million, or 1 cent a share.

Revenue fell to $2.79 billion from $3.11 billion.

Sun's profit met the average forecast of analysts polled by tracking firm Thomson First Call (News - Websites). They had seen Sun reporting between a loss of 1 cent to a profit of 2 cents. Revenue was pegged at $2.93 billion.
