Some 300mm news (but no firm dates given): ---- SGS-Thomson to invest $1.0 bln in France, Italy PARIS, May 11 (Reuters) - European semi-conductor group SGS-Thomson Microelectronics NV <STM.PA> <STM.N> said on Monday it would spend about $1.0 billion in research facilities and pilot production sites in France and Italy. It said in a statement it would invest $500 million to create a plant on 300mm/12-inch research and pilot production line at Crolles near Grenoble in France. It will also host a new research and development centre and pilot line in Italy for four new generations of non-volatile technologies within the next five years, which will take an investment similar to that for France. --- Shane
