btw, the '98 BKX peak is very instructive...at first, financials rose sharply on rate hopes (remember the flight into t-bills/bonds had just begun). then everybody realized that buying banks when credit conditions suggest big losses are coming is not exactly the bright thing to do. as usual, they all realized it on the same day....
