The problem here is that our enemies are not nations. If national leaders get more timid while their populations are getting more radical, who gains? Our old buddies at AQ, of course.

No, Stephen, our enemies are both the non-national actors and the nations that willingly supply them, harbor them, and use them as proxies. If all nations were against the terrorists, then we really would have a police problem on our hands.
