You are close. A few minor discrepencies, there is no point to (sic)evolution. Complexity is often a survival mechanism but at some level there is too much for an effective living organism. It's kind of a balancing act between gathering enough genes to adapt and having so many points of change that the organism is unable to find a balance. Thats why many organisms lose features when the survival value of the feature is less than the burdon of supporting it.
