For now, I'm going with descending order on Last Msg Date/Time.

I was trying to sort it ascending on alias, but because I'm building the whole link on the db side and calling it "Alias" so I can more easily make use of .NET's datagrids, it turned out it was sorting it on the put-together "Alias" field rather than the actual Alias field in the database. There actually *was* an order to it. It was sorting in ascending order by userid since it was part of the link the db was building.

If the consensus is that sorting by alias would be more desirable as a default (I'm not ready to make this user-configurable yet -- I want to wait until I have a larger list of user-config items to work on, and they'll likely be worked on post-production), I can still accomplish this by calling "Alias" something else for display purposes, like "Author". Then, I should be able to sort on Alias correctly.
