Seems to me that a cover-up is a cover-up. I don't see how it matters whether it's government or industry.

It depends on the industry. In the fashion industry it can be quite alluring. :-)

Actually the point is that the provincial health authority hid the problem until there were over a hundred casualties of their failure. In the US thank kind of failure is quite unlikely to occur under the for profit system. The government system almost got away with it. It is not that there are no American health providers that might like to execute a cover up like that, but that they would not be able to get away with it; not even for a fraction of the time that the Canadian government did.

We have private providers who have competitors. They are subject to regulation from government and certification by industry organizations.

When you turn all of these functions over to government then they tend to go into one hand covers up for the other governmental unit mode.
