NEC and TSNG labs partner. NEC Electronics and Tseng Labs Partner To Deliver Graphics Solutions; All-in-One Gaming Combo With PowerVR 3D Accelerator, Tseng 2D Engine

SANTA CLARA -- NEC Electronics Inc. today announced the availability of an OEM reference design that combines the PowerVR(TM) PCX2(TM) 3D graphics accelerator with Tseng Lab's (Nasdaq: TSNG) 128-bit ET6100(TM) 2D graphics and multimedia engine. NEC has formed a strategic alliance with Tseng Labs to develop PCI-compliant single card reference designs based on the PowerVR architecture.

This design offers PC OEM and graphics board manufacturers an all-in-one graphics solution that delivers arcade quality 3D rendering and high performance 2D acceleration for Windows(R) applications. The single-slot PCI card supports game and entertainment titles written for Direct3D(TM), PowerSGL(TM), and DirectDraw(TM), including more than 100 game titles that have been developed for or ported to the PowerVR architecture such as Tomb Raider(TM), Wipeout(TM) and MDK(TM).

VideoLogic's Apocalypse 5D graphics board is the first product utilizing the technology from NEC and Tseng Labs. The Apocalypse 5D board is widely available.

"NEC's partnership with Tseng Labs is an exciting venture, which will enable high quality 2D and 3D graphics options for OEMs and board manufacturers," said Charles Bellfield, product marketing manager, multimedia strategic business unit, NEC Electronics Inc. "We now offer a single source for a high performance graphics accelerator solution for 3D and 2D."

PowerVR with PCX2

PowerVR, from NEC Corporation and VideoLogic, is an advanced 3D graphics accelerator for personal computers, consoles and arcade systems. The PCX2 enhancements to PowerVR provide users with outstanding performance, offering a sustained fill rate of 40 million pixels per second on an Intel Pentium(R) Pro 200 MHz PC, some 25% better than its closest competitor(1).
PowerVR lessens the load on the PC's processor, so more cycles can be dedicated to the geometry processing critical for 3D graphics.

The advanced technology offers PC users stunning 3D effects. These include real shadows cast from any object over any surface, true exponential fogging, solid outdoor objects, long distance scenes (thanks to PowerVR's 32- bit Z buffer function), smooth shading and translucent effects like dirty glass, fire and water. Images appear smoothly on a PowerVR-equipped system, with bilinear filtering, which eliminates blocky pixels.

PowerVR provides lifelike 3D graphics on computer monitors with 640 x 480, 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 pixels of resolution, and lets users achieve the "true color" effects of 24-bit color on a standard 16-bit color PC through the use of dithering.

Tseng Labs ET6100

The ET6100 2D device is an enhanced version of Tseng's 128-bit ET6000(TM) graphics and multimedia engine, and delivers an unbeatable combination of 2D graphics acceleration for Windows(R) applications and DOS game titles.
The ET6100 features an integrated 175 Hz VGA-compatible LUT-DAC and delivers increased display bandwidth to support additional high resolution modes. These new modes include 1280 x 1024 16-bit at 75 Hz, 1024 x 768 24-bit at 85 Hz and 1600 x 1200 in 8- and 16-bit pixel depths.

Additional features of the ET6100 include:

* High quality scaling and de-interlacing of broadcast TV and DVD video streams

* 128-bit synchronous memory interface for net bandwidth exceeding 500 Mbytes/sec

* Integrated Multi-Port Cache manages multiple high bandwidth data streams

* Patented Display List Processor offers robust DirectDraw support

* Pin and software compatible with the ET6000
