Maybe, but there seems to be a pattern of willful blindness on recent Kurdish history. An awful lot of people seem convinced that the Kurds have been running a tidy and peaceful little democracy since the first Gulf war. I've seen very little discussion of the bloody internecine war in '95 and '96, and even less about Barzani's alliance of convenience with Saddam.

I don't know if it's dishonesty or just sloppiness, but the omission does produce a very distorted picture.
