It is a good point.

I don't quite understand how it is to the advantage of Americans to drive this "business" away from home. I don't see medical tourism becoming big business anytime soon or anything, but this really gets to one of the big issues in the debate -- i.e., the large share of GDP we're spending on health care. Why do we want that money spent in other countries? Wouldn't be just as well off to spend it locally and foster the continued commitment to medical research in the US?
