I've heard "My machine rocks", but not "love them Windows." (Maybe I'm too secluded.) Respect, and belief that Windows is the only rational way to go, but not love.

I apologize for not posting a link. My understanding is that Apple had the Mac OS ported to x86 in the early 90s.

The release never happened, partially because of concern about providing (greatly) increased support necessary to run System 7 on wide variety of Intel- and IBM- standard hardware (drivers, incompatibilities), and second thoughts about what the results would be (hardware sales, etc.). The cons apparently outweighed the pros. I could have this all wrong. (I tried to find a link. Help me out, somebody who was paying attention to these things back then)

>>2. Allow users of x86 systems to say "My Mac OS rocks"

Rhapsody for PC Compatibles is intended to do just that, while providing some encouragement to get the real PPC thing.

>>1. Apple is supposedly "visionary" again.
I take it people are working late and on weekends
to realize this new "vision" of network computers?

I can't vouch for this personally. Jobs makes a humorous comment at Seybold about there being cars in the parking lot after 6 these days, though. (http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/special/audio/srl1002.ram)

>>2. It seems almost criminal that Apple cannot turn a
huge profit on the incredible revenues that it
generates, especially considering that the overwhelming
consensus is that the hardware sells at a premium.
Where is all the money going.

Four+ years of questionable business operations takes a little while to turn around. And (finally!) the coming hardware does not all sell at the traditional premium. For the first time that I know of, it's now possible to open a current magazine (Windows Magazine, November winmag.com and look at reviews for current tier 1 PCs (Compaq Deskpro 4000 5233X/3200/CDS and Dell OptiPlex Gn+ 233, in this case) and see that they can be matched or beaten, almost feature for feature, dollar for dollar, speed for speed, by Macintoshes. At least by the November Gossamer-based Macintoshes predicted features. (I got the Gossamer prices and features from macosrumors.com, which is temporarily unavailable while moving to a new ISP.) Where all the money goes, I don't know.

Good luck, everybody. Short or long, you can probably get something out of the next two days if you time it right.
