A car bomb exploded near a park in Iraq Tuesday, killing as many as 18 boys playing soccer, police said.

The blast happened in central Ramadi, a city west of Baghdad. It's known as the centre of the Sunni insurgency.

An injured man sits amid the debris after a suicide bomber attacked in the Iraqi city of Ramadi on Tuesday.
(Associated Press) Police said the victims ranged in age from 10 to 15.

Iraqi state television reported on the attack, but the Interior Ministry did not immediately comment.

Young people are often caught in Iraq's daily bloodshed. On Sunday, more than 40 people, mostly college students, were killed in a bombing outside a mostly Shia college in Baghdad.

In July 2005, a suicide bombing in Baghdad killed 27 people, including 18 children and a U.S. soldier.
