I used them in the thesis I mentioned. But the provenance is too tenuous. They are too similar to other apocalyptic writing associated with groups like the Essenes, and too dissimilar to the acknowledged Gospels. Also, some of the earliest Patristic writing, like the letters of Ignatius of Antioch or the apologias of Justin Martyr, jibe better with the acknowledged Gospels. The earliest Gospel dating (Mark) puts it as being very likely within the second generation of the church, and forms the most credible "template" of the basic Gospel story that was handed down. It is widely assumed that subsequent Gospels, especially Luke, were written under the influence of Paul's theology. That again tends to favor the acknowledged Gospels as representing early Christian belief. But the main thing is that none of the Apocryphal Gospels is obviously superior in provenance to these other indices, and therefore can only be used to raise questions, not to solve them.......
