The difference is Biden really did talk about FDR going on TV, as president, after the crash.

Palin never said you can see Russia from her house, she said there is land (an island) in Alaska where you can see Russia. The western edges of the Alaska are pretty far away from from Juneau or Wasilla. I think Russia is over a thousand miles from Juneau. But Little Diomede (in Alaska) is less than two and a half miles from Big Diomede (in Russia).

Also St. Lawrence Island is about 35 to 40 miles from the Russian mainland, and if your on the high ground and its a clear day, apparently you can see Russia.
