GZ, I live in an area with marginal (weak signal) cable service through TimeWarner, and everything has to be just right in order to have reliable cable internet. The main thing that has helped improve reliability is to eliminate as many splitters and connections between the source cable on the service pole at the back of the garage and my modem. In my case, installing a splitter at the source and running continuous cable directly to the modem, with the second splitter going on the TV's made a huge improvement. In fact, other than an instance where the squirrels ate the line, the service has been very good. Recently, an intermittent problem cropped up that couldn't be remedied with a call to customer service, so I carried my modem and an extension cord to the back of the garage, disconnected the splitter and connected my modem directly to the source line and the modem connected! As inconceivable as it seems, the splitter was bad! Replaced same and have been good ever since. Anyway, is it possible to trace your line from wherever it comes in all the way to the modem? You may have a poor connection or something simple. Service calls make me tired, so I just do it myself whenever possible.
