The Shin Bet Security Service revealed Thursday that it has recently arrested seven Palestinians on suspicion of involvement in terror attacks.

Five of the detainees were arrested on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist cell in the West Bank village of Beit Forik that was operating in the area of Mevasseret Zion and Har Adar, near Jerusalem.

According to the Shin Bet and the IDF, the five - activists from PA Chairman Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement - are suspected of carrying out shooting attacks, setting off explosive devices, arson attacks, and stealing arms. ]

Two of the suspects are members of the Palestinian police force.

The other two were arrested on suspicion of planning and execution of terror attacks in Israel.

One of the two - Hamas activist Faras Valid Ahmed abu Sheikhidam - was caught in a taxi with an explosive device on his person.

Abu Sheikhdam, who has previously been arrested for his activities, joined Hamas following the death of a Hamas activist in Hebron, where he is a resident.

The second suspect - 22-year-old Tanzim activist Zadak Tachaina, from the West Bank village of Silat a-Khartiya near Jenin - is suspected of planting a bomb in the town of Mei Ami, just south of Umm al-Fahm. The bomb exploded without causing any injuries.

The Shin Bet also said Thursday that Tanzim activists in the West Bank had planned to booby-trap a car in Zichron Ya'akov, but the plan was cancelled due to the fact that the man who was supposed to plant the bomb was killed in an explosion in his car.
