Society doesn't have rights or needs. People have rights and needs, some of which they act collectively to provide for or protect, but that isn't the same thing.

And once again its not really relevant to the point we were debating. Supposed rights and needs of society wouldn't make policies chosen by democratically elected representatives equal "democracy".
