Michael Moore Gets Michigan Taxpayer Film Subsidy For Latest Movie As He Sits On Board That Recommends The Tax Credit!
A state this dumb may deserve to go under.
Back in early October, I gave Michael Moore - an ardent union supporter - flak for, of all things, using non-union workers on his last film: More Michael Moore Hypocrisy: Used NON-UNION Stage Hands To Film "Capitalism: A Love Story".
Now, he gets caught sucking off the Michigan taxpayers to produce more propaganda for his liberal positions. The real kicker is that Moore is a member of the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council that recommends the doling out the subsidies to film makers. NRO calls it "Cronyism: A Love Story." Heh. From the Mackinac Center for Public Policy: Moore Film Subsidies
A Mackinac Center news release details how filmmaker Michael Moore's latest movie was approved for a taxpayer-funded subsidy through the Michigan Film Incentive, even though Moore himself appears to criticize the program in this video from Communications Specialist Kathy Hoekstra. Michael LaFaive, director of the Center's Morey Fiscal Policy Initiative, further examines the details of this subsidy, including the fact that Moore is a member of the Michigan Film Office Advisory Council. The council advises the Michigan Film Office, which is responsible for approving applications for subsidies to the Michigan Film Incentive. And from the DC Trawler (via Instapundit) there is this video from the Mackinac Center made by Kathy Hoekstra:
From the DC post:
In his 2009 film “Capitalism: A Love Story,” Michigan native Michael Moore went to Wall Street with a request to corporate officials whose companies received bailout money from the federal government.
“We’re here to get the money back for the American people,” Moore said in the film. “I’ve got more bags — $10 billion probably won’t fit in here.”
Moore was criticizing an economic system he calls “legalized greed,” but the Mackinac Center has discovered that Moore’s movie qualified for a windfall — at the expense of Michigan taxpayers.
...What has capitalism ever done for Michael Moore? Less and less with every film.
Moore refused Mackinac’s request for an interview. They should’ve camped out in front of his office with some goofy props. Nah, that crap doesn’t play anymore.
This from the same guy who said in his latest movie that "capitalism is evil." Turns out, Moore lives on a $1.2 million waterfront estate and was caught filling in protected wetlands on that property to expand his beach. From Tim Blair some time back:
To celebrate today’s Oscar Madison awards in Hollywood, here’s a piece on comical, hysterical, spherical Michael Moore:
Perhaps nothing irritates Moore more than criticism of his lifestyle.
He's been known to refer to his house on 10 acres of Torch Lake frontage as a cabin, as if it were a place with four walls, a roof, an outhouse and a stack of cordwood to beat back the chill in winter.
Technically, it is a log cabin. Two stories. According to Antrim County records, the home is worth $1.2 million. Former Moore pal Ben Hamper -- "I'm just another person he's outgrown" -- has an interesting theory about Moore’s capacity for denial:
At an appearance at Michigan State University in late January, Moore took questions after his two-hour talk. A student asked if rumors about him building on a wetland Up North were true.
Silence. Then: "Don't know what you're talking about." According to state records, Moore partially filled in a wetland to improve his beach. He quickly fixed the problem and wasn't fined.
Why deny it? "A pathological need to be right," Hamper said. That need is so rarely satisfied. Environmental regulation for thee, but not for me!!! Moore also hopes that MI-based automaker GM will outright fail as a company, since cars are "WMDs for global warming." His exact words. He said that very thing after making a name for himself with the documentary Roger and Me about how corporate greed was destroying GM! (Michigan's Michael Moore on GM: Filled with "Joy" Over Demise, cars "WMDs responsible for global warming") In addition, Moore enjoys vulgar displays of wealth, as indicative of this account from Mark Hemingway over at the Corner at NRO: Anti-Capitalist Filmmaker Enjoys Vulgar Displays of Wealth.
