Very good point Greg. Dell is on Nasdaq which is controlled by market makers. A stop loss is just an invitation: please take my stock at this price. And they do scoop the lower price and immediately get back to the previous level. If you want to do a stop loss, do it mentally only.

In some small stocks which has a huge huge runup and you are far ahead in your gains, you might want to put a stop loss to protect the gain for example the recent runup in K-tel or Entremed. They were moving so fast and extremely volatile.
