Why anyone would object to data that helps us to measure success of the plan is beyond me.

Looked at in isolation there is no inherent reason to not want such data. Looked at in the context of the real world such data is subject to manipulation and ill use by both sides of the debate. The numbers themselves can be fudged, but mostly it would be a matter of selecting the numbers used in an argument, and presenting them in such a way that distorts reality.

The numbers will also be uncertain. Witness all the controversy over the studies about the number of deaths in Iraq. We have hard data over the deaths of Americans fighting in Iraq, but the data about other deaths and violence isn't very hard.

None of which means I wouldn't like the numbers you ask for, but together the points I mentioned show how the numbers might be far less useful than you think they will be.
