But still they need to go to 64 bits one day. It will be interesting to see if Intel's own attempt will push itself(x86) from the king's seat. Every other vendor has attempted and failed. Personally I think Intel should define a 64-bit extension to x86. Don't laugh - the x86 is already a train wreck, what's a little extra complexity? If Intel doesn't do it, then AMD should. The x86 is not going away soon.
