From IOWA BRIEFS, Jan. '97: State OKs portable jail
FORT MADISON - The Department of Corrections has approved a temporary plan to relieve overcrowding at the Lee County jail south of Fort Madison by using portable jail cells.
The Department agreed to allow Lee County to erect two portable buildings to house prisoners for up to three years.
The buildings - which consist of two semi-tractor trailers converted into jail cells with electricity, heat, plumbing and surveillance - will add 24 beds to the existing 40-bed jail, Lee County Sheriff Dave Ireland said. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
In 1896, Lakewood, Michigan bought 2 portable jail cells. Not from ATPX though (vbg) lkwdpl.org

Let me get a jump on the next topic. ATPX does have a deal with Honda for natural gas tanks, remember. This is from today's news:
<06/01/98 - Tokyo Gas Launches NGV-Promotion Program
Tokyo, Japan - Tokyo Gas Co. is launching a major campaign to promote the use of natural gas-fueled vehicles (NGVs), reports Nihon Keizai Shimbun. The company plans to increase the number of stations it operates from 22 to 39 by March, 1999. By March 2001, Tokyo Gas will also increase its own fleet of NGVs from 343 to 650, an amount equal to 20 percent of its fleet. Some 2,093 NGVs were on the road in Japan at the end of 1997, but automakers there have announced plans to mass-produce the vehicles. City gas companies see NGVs as a way to boost demand for natural gas, since the average vehicle consumes 2,000 cubic meters of fuel per year. That amount represents five times the consumption of a typical household. > |
