Ted, that Newsweek article would have been a good one had it not fallen for straw man arguments.

Southwest is an example of how the free market rewards good companies that treat their employees the right way. Satisfied employees translate to better productivity and better customer service.

There was even a story about an SWA executive who said, "The customer isn't always right." This was in response to an SWA employee who received abuse from an irate passenger. I thought it was admirable for the company to stand behind its staff in a case where the passenger was clearly in the wrong.

I believe Starbucks is also a company that succeeds due in part to great employee benefits. Companies that treat their employees right will succeed more often than not. Companies that treat their employees like crap should be allowed to fail. Something that should have happened to GM and Chrysler ...
