Treasury expects to borrow $38 billion in Q2
Monday, May 3, 2004 8:29:00 PM

WASHINGTON (AFX) -- The federal government expects to borrow $38 billion in the three months from April to June, the Treasury Department said Monday. Earlier, the Treasury had said it expected to borrow $75 billion in the second quarter. If the projections materialize, it will be the lowest borrowing needs since the government borrowed $15 billion in the second quarter of 2002. The government said the borrowing needs were lower as a result of higher receipts and lower expenditures than they had earlier expected. For the third quarter, the Treasury Department said it expects to borrow $91 billion. In the first three months of the year, the government borrowed $146 billion, the largest amount on record
