To All : A non-Definitive Conclusion ***
After almost a year of research into DSL technology, Amati , and it Officers, Engineers/students, and Stanford University:
1) Why would Amati want to be bought? They have the technology, the standard, in an explosive field, they appear to have gone to great strides in making deals with the biggest companies in their respective fields.
In my humble yet Amati educated opinion, it would appear this company does not appear to want you to put 2 + 2 together and have you arrive at a summation.
It would seem Amati does not want to let the world to know what it's true Potential, Goals and Objectives are "yet", and in turn, releases the bare minimum information as possible, in regards to the entire game plan, complete trial information, equipment involved, etc. on each of the 6 trials we are of aware of at this time. No where is a concise game plan that we can go look and see the big picture of all the trials. We just learned (thanks to Pat) that Amati has Overtures in trial with MCI.
I have been on an archival dig in Asia, Europe, US, and it would appear I know as much about Amati as the archeologist knows about the Pyramids. Some secrets are yet to be revealed.
Can someone show us a site, document, news release, anything that gives us a run down, A,B,C?
To our credit, we here and on SI and the M Fool have uncovered bits and pieces of pertinent information, unfortunately they are buried beneath 6000 or more postings under threads with the Amati Theme here on SI, and another 6000 or so posting on the Motley Fool Thread on Amati, now in it's 13th chapter. Not to our credit is the fact that no one has bothered to put these pieces together in a concise format, or they have not posted them.
Perhaps we could all come together on some date in the future, and post the facts we do have, and put together a concise document. It would seem far more productive, than the argumentative conversations I have seen recently.
The postings should include a way to reference them easily such as *** on the title line .

San Jose, CA, April 29, 1996 An Excerpt:
The Overture 8 has most recently been used in an international 6 Mbps trial in Australia for a service offering broadcast video to the home by Telstra (Telecom Australia). These tests involve transmission over copper cable of broadcast quality, real-time video at distances greater than 10,000 feet.
Amati is also participating in tests of 2 Mbps and 4 Mbps video-on-demand (interactive video) services being offered by PTT's in Europe and the Asia-Pacific with companies including Philips, Italtel, Tadiran, and Samsung. The new generation of Amati products is also intended to cost-effectively handle these relatively low-speed video requirements as well.
