Standard & Poor's Announces Changes in S&P Indexes
October 13, 1998: Standard & Poor's Financial Information Services will make the following changes in the S&P MidCap 400 and S&P REIT Composite Indexes after the close of trading on Thursday, October 15, 1998:
Agouron Pharmaceuticals (AGPH) will replace BetzDearborn (BTL) in the S&P MidCap 400 Index. BetzDearborn is merging with S&P 500 component Hercules Inc. (HPC). Meristar Hospitality (MHX) will replace Capstone Capital Corp. (CCT) in the S&P REIT Composite Index. Capstone Capital is merging with S&P REIT Composite component HealthCare Realty Trust (HR). The transaction is still subject to shareholder approval.
Agouron Pharmaceuticals is an integrated pharmaceutical company committed to the discovery, development, manufacturing, and marketing of innovative therapeutic products engineered to inactivate proteins that play key roles in cancer, AIDS, and other serious diseases. The company, headquartered in La Jolla, California, will be added the S&P MidCap 400 Biotechnology industry group. Meristar Hospitality Corp. is a hotel real estate investment trust formed as a result of a merger between CapStar Hotel Company and American General Hospitality Corp. The company, headquartered in Washington D.C., will be added to the S&P REIT Specialty property category.
