| I can see how you would find your situation satisfactory, and it not my intent to say that you are wrong. There is a legitimate diversity of interests. I grew up in and around Washington, and it has colored my perception a great deal. When I was a child, we went to band concerts at the Watergate, picnicked at the Jefferson Memorial while waiting for the 4th of July fireworks, went to the Smithsonian museums, visited the National Zoo, toured the White House, went to Mount Vernon several times, visited the Mint and the old FBI building, went a number of times to Arlington National Cemetery, and so forth. The sense of being someplace where important things happened, and where there were a lot of amenities, and pride in being a native Washingtonian, became a big part of me. |
