Amtech Systems (ASYS) sank almost 9 percent after the Tempe, Ariz., maker of thin wafer capital equipment filed to extend the deadline for filing its Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30. The company is looking for an extension to allow it to complete implementation of SAB 101 regulation for revenue recognition. Amtech said that implementation of SAB 101 will not affect the fundamentals of its business but it will require deferral of revenue recognition and subsequent income under certain circumstances. The company said it still expects to be profitable for fiscal 2001, but operating income is now projected to come in 15 to 30 percent below its reported total for 2000 due the accounting change. Amtech will also record a charge in 2001 of no more than 35 to 50 percent of net income for fiscal 2000 from the accounting change.
