Addi, I hope that the market's fear about Sun's competitive situation is overblown, but, something is still bothering me. And, perhaps given your experience with big data bases (I looked at your profile!) you could help.
I guess my main concern is that Sun is not treating the threat as really real. It certainly is, no matter how much we can correct the way statistics have been bent around to show that Sun/Unix will disappear from the earth next Wednesday. We all know about NT and scalability, but, your average broker guy probably doesn't. And, let's not forget that the master of the evil empire has much more credibility with Wall Street than anyone else.
I wish that Sun would do a lot of P.R. about their future, and, unbend the statistics a bit. I guess I'm old enough to have seen the IBM boys miss the PC, then the RISC boys forcasting the demise of the mainframe, etc. What really happens in the technical world versus what is the perception seems to be very much apart.
I'm sorry, I'm belaboring this. Again, what do users of US plan on doing for their OS? |
